Living Skill Learnt - I
How to make Curry Puff
August 2008

Since our princess is now celebrating her 10th birthday, we thought it's about time for her to improve her cooking skills which an interest that she shares with her dad. So far she had learned to cook the steam rice (of course using the rice cooker), french toasts, 'jemput bawang',not forgetting her favourite italian dishes such as the mini pizza @ bruschetta, the spaghetti (with the help of the prego sauce) and minestroni soup.

This time her dad had chosen a recipe that need skill and a little bit of artistic value which is curry puff. As described in the wikipedia :

Curry puff (Malay: Karipap, Chinese:咖哩角, Thai กะหรี่ปั๊ป, IPA: [kàrìː páp]) is a Malaysian, Thai and Singaporean snack which is of Malay origin. It is a small pie consisting of specialised curry with chicken and potatoes in a deep-fried pastry shell. The curry is quite thick to prevent it from oozing out of the snack.
A common snack in the region, the curry puff is one of several "puff"-type pastries with different fillings, though now it is by far the most common. Other common varieties include sardines and onions or sweet fillings such as yam.

For this time, her dad prepared the dough@pastry and the fillings for her... it was her dad's specialised chicken curry. Her dad only had to show her once on how to put the fillings in the pastry, fold the pastry over to make a half circle and crimp at edges. She mastered the skill after her second curry puffs. I guess for this coming Hari Raya, be sure to watch out for Alliya's Curry Puff!!
